By Ariella Ojajuni

Hello Thrivers,

If you are building a brand today especially in beauty, fashion, or lifestyle then you already know influencer marketing is no longer optional.

It’s a Must Have.

But what most brands are still trying to figure out is this:

Why do some creators drive real connection and results… while others just create content that looks good but doesn’t convert?

Before you send out that next PR package…
Before you sign that next influencer deal…
Before you spend money trying to “go viral”…

We spoke to someone who understands this from the inside.

Ariella Ojajuni is a lifestyle, beauty, and fashion creator who has worked with brands like Gino Nigeria, First Bank, Indomie, Honeywell, and Bolden USA. She was also one of the finalists at the CeraVe Awards 2026 and has built a growing community by doing something many creators struggle with: staying consistently relevant and being both aspirational and deeply relatable at the same time.

And according to her, most brands are still missing something very simple.

“People don’t connect with perfection, they connect with real life”

“My brand is really just relatable soft life… it’s beauty, fashion, lifestyle, and real-life moments, but in a way that feels honest and very ‘this is actually how my life is.’”

And that’s where many brands get it wrong.

A lot of marketing today still focuses on the final result:

  • The perfect shot

  • The clean aesthetic

  • The polished outcome

But according to Ariella, that’s not what actually keeps people.

“I show the process, not just the final result… the getting ready, the small wins, even the chaotic moments.”

Because that’s what makes someone watching feel like:

“Okay, this is something I can actually relate to.”

Not something distant. Not something forced.

Something real.

“Content works better when it feels like a conversation”

If you are wondering what kind of content actually performs with her audience, the answer is not what many brands expect.

It’s not overly scripted campaigns.
It’s something much simpler.

“My community loves content that feels like a conversation, GRWMs, day-in-my-life vlogs, honest reviews… things that don’t feel overly polished.”

That word again: feels.

Because the difference between content that performs and content that flops is usually not the budget.

It’s the feeling.

“I talk with them, not at them.”

And this is where many brands miss it.

If your campaign feels like an announcement, people scroll.
If it feels like gist, people stay.

What actually changed her growth

At some point, Ariella had to unlearn what she thought content was supposed to be.

And that shift changed everything.

“I used to think you had to speak a certain way or be ‘aesthetically pleasing’… but the moment I started to show my actual personality, everything changed.”

Her humor.
Her voice.
Her randomness.

That’s what people connected with.

“People connect more with personality than perfection.”

For brands, this is a big one.

Because the moment you over-sanitize a creator’s content, you remove the exact thing that makes it work.

Storytelling is not optional, it’s the whole game

Ariella made this very clear.

“Storytelling is everything. Even the simplest video has a beginning, middle, and end.”

And once she understood that, her content improved immediately.

Because people are not just watching content.

They are following a moment.

  • What’s happening?

  • Where is this going?

  • Why should I care?

If your campaign doesn’t answer those questions, it won’t hold attention.

And if it doesn’t hold attention, it won’t convert.

How brands should actually approach collaborations

This is where things get very practical.

Ariella is very intentional about the brands she works with.

“I only work with brands I can naturally fit into my lifestyle.”

And then she uses one simple test:

“How would I talk about this if I wasn’t being paid?”

That question alone filters out a lot of bad campaigns.

Because when content feels forced, the audience always knows.

“My goal is for it to feel seamless… like it belongs on my page, not like an interruption.”

So if you are a brand, ask yourself:

Are you trying to fit into the creator’s world
Or are you trying to force them into your script?

Because only one of those works.

The biggest mistake brands still make

“There’s always pressure to present things perfectly, especially with brand work… but that’s not what my audience connects with.”

And that pressure often comes from brands.

Wanting:

  • Perfect angles

  • Perfect messaging

  • Perfect delivery

But in trying to control everything, they lose the one thing that matters most:

Authenticity.

Because the truth is simple:

If it doesn’t feel like the creator, it won’t feel believable.

And if it’s not believable, it won’t perform.

For brands thinking long-term, this matters

One of the strongest things Ariella emphasized was community.

Not just audience. Community.

“I carry my audience along… through updates, voice notes, everyday moments. That’s what strengthens the connection.”

And that kind of connection cannot be built overnight.

“Don’t chase virality… a loyal community takes time to build.”

This applies to brands too.

Because one influencer post might give you visibility.

But consistency is what builds trust.

And trust is what drives sales.

Advice for creators (and brands paying attention)

Ariella kept this very honest:

“Be consistent, but more importantly, be real. People can tell when you’re forcing it.”

She also added something that many people don’t like to hear:

“Don’t compare your growth to anyone else… focus on improving your content and yourself.”

And most importantly:

“No matter how small your community is, appreciate it, cherish it, and nurture it.”

Because that’s where everything starts.

Final Thoughts, Thrivers

This time, you have heard it directly from Ariella not just from us.

So before your next influencer campaign, take a step back and think:

  • Are we focused on perfection or connection?

  • Are we allowing the creator’s personality to shine?

  • Are we telling a story, or just pushing a product?

  • Are we building a relationship, or just paying for a post?

Because when influencer marketing is done right, it doesn’t just give you content.

It gives you something much stronger:

Trust.

And in today’s market, trust is what converts.
